Review: Bobin and Segel Do Justice with ‘The Muppets’
Disclaimer: I normally don’t write reviews in the first person. Given my lifelong appreciation for the Muppets though, I felt my opinion wouldn’t carry the same weight otherwise.
Growing up in the late 80s/early 90s, I watched Jim Henson’s Muppets in all their wonderful forms: “Sesame Street,” “Fraggle Rock,” “Muppet Babies,” and reruns of “The Muppet Show.” Like other children my age, I was drawn to Kermit the Frog and his friends because of their vivid imagination, unflinching optimism, and ability to express themselves through entertaining songs.
I just caught “The Muppets” over Thanksgiving and I *loved* it! Jason Segel and Amy Adams did such an incredible job! And then… the muppets! It made me kinda teary eyed seeing them all together again. Me and my parents laughed so much through the whole movie! I just wish there was more Beaker. 🙂
I saw it over Thanksgiving with my family as well. My sister got a bit misty when they started singing “Rainbow Connection.” It was the song with the paintings that got to me though. I was really happy that they were back. More Beaker would have been cool, but they did have some funny parts in there like when he was shrunk and when he was in the Barber Shop Quartet. I didn’t realize the first time I saw it that they were singing Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” in that skit.
