Movie Review: Muppets Most Wanted
James Bobin’s Muppets Most Wanted works as a Muppet movie and as a comedy, because it lacks any pretense of originality. Right from its whip-smart opening song Bobin and songwriter Bret McKenzie acknowledge that like most sequels, theirs lacks creativity. This disarming honesty distracts you from the fact that Bobin and co-writer Nicholas Stoller recycle previous Muppet films, and allows you to focus on what’s most important: spending time with all your old friends.

4/5 stars is a really generous review. I wasn’t any where near as captivated by this, however I am such a lifelong Muppets fan that I still gave this a pass. The songs were wonderful and the reason the lackluster humor became a recommendation for me.
P.S. I really should sign up for http://letterboxd.com/ I’m still on Flixster because their ratings are used at Rotten Tomatoes.
Thanks for reading Mark. You definitely should get on Letterboxd. I was hesitant for a while, but a lot of my friends and fellow critics are on there so eventually I broke down. It’s great for keeping track of what I’ve seen and making lists of films. Plus I found it super easy to use.
I may be the only person in the Western world not interested in the Muppets! But I’ll check this out on your recommendation Evan! 🙂
If you’re not a fan I don’t think it will convert you Dan. But I understand not everyone is into the Muppets haha. If you do decide to watch it, let me know what you think!
